Understatement of the year.

"California's housing market, one of the strongest and most closely watched in the United States and the engine of the state's economic recovery, is heading toward a "soft landing" that will slow the state's economy, UCLA Anderson Forecast senior economist Christopher Thornberg wrote in a report."

The housing boom is screwing up the economy.

America's housing boom is causing an enormous misallocation of resources.

"The popular argument that high house prices are justified by low interest rates has also been stretched to its limit. The affordability of houses for first-time buyers, measured by the ratio of median income to median mortgage payments, is at its most daunting since 1989—the market's previous peak, after which average nationwide home prices failed to keep pace with inflation for five years."

Waiting for the bubble to pop

"We're a year away from retiring. Should we wait until the bubble bursts and housing costs come down?"
My answer would be- Yes, wait for housing prices to drop drastically until they are at a level that you can afford. You'll be 80 years old with an affordable house payment. You'll be happy that you waited out "the bubble".

That's right, interest rates hit a two-month low.

Home Builder Remains Bullish on Housing Market

"On average, single-family house prices have risen 50 percent nationwide over the past five years. That's meant record profits for homebuilders, even as some economists have said the current run-up in housing prices in certain markets is probably not sustainable."

I don't have these answers, but I do have a whole lot of evidence that realtors are resorting to 'unusual' tactics to drum up business.
